Take the next step on your leadership journey

What does it take to be a leader who people love to work with? Knowing what steps to take to progress can be daunting, whether you’re just starting out in a leadership role, found yourself as an accidental leader struggling with where next or how to develop, or figuring out how to excel as a senior leader.

Particularly if you’re not willing to compromise on what matters to you – being kind, compassionate and leading with humanity.

This is where I can help. Over my own tech leadership career I’ve learned that it’s possible to remain true to yourself as a leader with humanity, do the right thing for colleagues and enjoy life, all while still achieving results and helping people to grow. I offer coaching programmes designed to support you, helping you think and reflect to find the leadership path that’s right for you.

How do I know if coaching is for me?

If you’re feeling a bit stuck, or know you want to become a better leader but aren’t sure where next on your journey, then working with a coach can be a great way to reflect, focus and move forward.

As a coach I’ve helped people move through challenges such as:

  • Dealing with impostor syndrome and finding the confidence to achieve new levels in their career

  • Dialling down an authoritative leadership style to one that’s more empathetic and supportive, helping them become a more relatable and respected leader

  • Dealing with tough conversations in a compassionate yet effective way

  • Stepping back from hands-on operational to more a strategic and scalable focus

  • Taking on a director level role for the first time

Frequently Asked Questions

  • The way I best like to describe coaching is as a thinking partnership. As a coach I work along side you to give you the space and time to think and reflect. Drawing on coaching tools where required, I’ll bring questioning and challenge in a way that works for you to help you gain new insights and movement towards your goals.

  • A mentor shares their experience of what worked, and didn’t, on the path they’ve travelled. A coach doesn’t need to know your path, they’re there to help you unlock the solutions that are right for you. While I focus on coaching, if you’re on a similar tech journey to me, I’m comfortable in blending the two. We’d work together to establish the right balance in a way that’s transparent and with the goal of bringing the most value to you.

  • Coaching can be transformational, if you’re prepared to put in the work and to be open to that transformation! It also doesn’t all happen in our sessions together, these are often a catalyst to new thinking and growth in between. Coaching is about movement and unlocking potential, and having someone along side you to help you really focus can be extremely powerful as well as rewarding.

  • People at all stages of their leadership journey, whether you’re just starting out in tech, have taken on a team lead role for the first time, or are at a senior leadership or executive level.

I also work both directly with individuals and with organisations who are looking to help bring about wider change through coaching.

  • We’d meet on a cadence to suit you, typically starting with a programme of six coaching sessions where we’d meet every few weeks to once a month. Sessions are normally 90 minutes in length and can be either via video platform or in-person (location allowing).

Coaching is a flexible and adaptive partnership however, so ultimately we’ll work together to figure out what will work best to help you achieve your goals.

  • I offer affordability based pricing, with different pricing depending on if you’re paying directly as an individual or via an organisation, and also taking into account things such as career stage and the length of our engagement.

I’m also happy to offer pro bono coaching in certain situations, to help those who can’t afford to pay for coaching.

Credentials

Working with people is what I love to do. I’ve spent over 20 years working in tech leadership roles, across software engineering, testing, devOps, architecture, people operations and tech academies. Common to all these was helping people to enjoy their work, progress and grow while delivering great outcomes.

Coaching allows me to help others to do the same, so in addition to my career experience and academic education (a BA Hons in Geography and an MRes focused around GIS if anyone’s interested!) I’ve also done extensive training to become fully qualified and credentialled coach.
